  Understanding the genetic and genomic mechanisms of how organisms adapt to their natural environments is one of central topics in evolutionary biology and ecology. Prof.Xu’s group uses N. attenuata as model plant to investigate the adaptive traits that are involved in plant-insect interactions, such as plant defense against herbivores. The two key questions they are addressing are:

  1) which genes are underlying those traits in N. attenuata?

  2) how did these traits evolve?
